JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS - STOP LOOK AND LISTEN: THE CAPITOL RECORDINGS (2001)

From Rhino Handmade:

"Josie And The Pussycats was a Saturday morning cartoon series that followed the adventures of an all-girl cartoon pop trio that toured the world thrilling millions. Offstage, the gals kept busy too, unearthing mysteries and kicking some serious bad guy butt.

Josie And The Pussycats were more than just two-dimensional celluloid heroines. They were a groundbreaking multi-cultural group who came a long way, baby, playing their own instruments while wearing pointed cat ears and sexy leotards. And this was at a time when cartoon pop was still largely being performed by Archie Andrews's band, The Archies, comprised of three boys, two girls and (sometimes) a dog!

In 1970, Capitol Records released the group's only album, the cleverly titled Josie And The Pussycats From The Hanna-Barbera TV Show. However it was not the voice actors from the series who did the singing. The Capitol album, as with all the Capitol recordings, featured the same melodius incantations of the three women who sang the Josie And The Pussycats parts in the television series. Cathy Dougher sang for Josie, Cherie Moor (short for Cheryl Ann Stopelmoor) sang for Melody, and Patrice Holloway, sister of Motown R &B star Brenda Holloway, sang for Valerie.

Most of the Capitol Josie And The Pussycats recordings were written, or co-written, by the album's co-producer, Danny Janssen, who was one of Bobby Sherman's main songwriters. Al Capps also worked with Bobby Sherman, as well as with Davy Jones, David Cassidy and The Brady Bunch. A few of the Josie And The Pussycats songs were co-written by Bobby Hart who had also penned hits for The Monkees. But the group's catchy theme song was composed by Hanna and Barbera themselves, along with Hanna-Barbera's musical director Hoyt Curtin.

Stop Look And Listen: The Capitol Recordings features all of the tracks Dougher, Moore and Holloway recorded for the Capitol album, the Capitol singles and for the four Capitol Creative Products Singles manufactured for distribution by Kelloggs'. In addition, we’ve included seven previously unreleased Capitol recordings. Three of these are tracks you never knew existed. And all tracks, old and new, have been remastered from original tapes. A 20-page booklet captures the appropriate memorabilia from both the Capitol Records and Hanna-Barbera Archives."

This CD is very rare. Copies are, get this, ALMOST $300 on Amazon. It will never be in print again, so get it while you can.
